Bolton Wanderers has secured a minority investment from US-based Entrepreneur Equity Partners LLC (EEP), a global investor in sports clubs and entertainment real estate. The deal sees former Co-op Live chief Tim Leiweke join the board as the club prepares for its return to the Championship after finishing 5th in League One last season (75 pts, 19W-18D-9L, +18 GD).
What does the investment mean for Bolton Wanderers?
The investment aims to strengthen the club’s position in the Championship, with a focus on fan engagement and matchday experience. EEP, founded by sports executives Tim Leiweke, Francesca Bodie, and Keegan McDonald, brings expertise in club growth, stadium development, and commercial operations. Leiweke will join the board, while McDonald will serve as an observer, alongside existing directors Sharon Brittan, Michael James, and Nick Luckock.
Why is this partnership significant?
Bolton Wanderers chair Sharon Brittan emphasized the alignment with EEP’s vision, stating, "In EEP, we have found a partner who understands our community and shares our ambition to enhance the fan experience." The club remains under the same leadership, with Brittan as chair and David Ray as CEO. Leiweke highlighted the fans’ passion at Wembley as a key factor in the investment, saying, "We witnessed the club’s promotion and saw the incredible support."
What’s next for Bolton Wanderers?
With the new season approaching, the club aims to build on its League One success (28 points behind leaders Lincoln) and solidify its place in the Championship. The investment will support long-term growth, including commercial and operational improvements. Brittan added, "EEP’s minority investment will keep supporters at the heart of every decision as we continue our transformation."
