Bolton Wanderers and Everton fans united to pay special tribute to 15-year-old Noah Johnson, from Berne Avenue, Horwich, following his passing on June 11 after suffering a sudden asthma attack. The poignant event took place at Bolton Wanderers' pre-season friendly against Everton at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on July 25.
Johnson’s legacy was remembered both before and during the match, which took place just weeks after his untimely death. Born with rare eosinophilic brittle asthma, Noah received dedicated medical care from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital throughout his life. His long-standing passion for football was evident as he followed both Bolton Wanderers and Everton with his friends.
Bolton Wanderers went out of their way to ensure the Johnson family felt supported, inviting them, including parents Ryan and Chloe, brother Evan, and sister Evie, into the hospitality suite at the stadium. The club further acknowledged Noah by placing him prominently within the game day experience, with special tributes on the big screen.
During the match, players from both teams escorted Noah’s family around the pitch for a touching gesture that brought both supporters together in silence before kick-off. Fans from Everton unfurled large flags to pay tribute to the teenager during the 15th minute of play, which was followed by an emotional standing ovation and applause.
