Bolton Wanderers boss Steven Schumacher is looking to put recruitment frustration to one side and guarantee the team he puts out on the pitch against Preston North End makes a positive start on Wanderers' return to Championship football. The Whites are racing to add to their attacking options ahead of this Saturday lunchtime's curtain raiser with negotiations to bring in KAA Gent striker Max Dean continuing as The Bolton News went to press. The Toughsheet Stadium expects to welcome the biggest crowd since Wanderers dropped out of the Premier League in 2012, and with 4,400 away tickets sold there is even an outside chance that the 27,000-mark could be reached for the first time in 20 years. The last time Bolton welcomed a gate of that size was for the visit of Manchester United in October 2006 - a game made memorable for Wayne Rooney's hat-trick in a 4-0 win for the Reds. Schumacher has experienced some hold-ups after promotion from League One in the play-offs and started this week recognising his side still needed “four or five” new players, particularly in the attacking areas. Defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup first round last weekend brought some of the fans' concerns to the surface once again but the Bolton boss is hopeful of a clean slate once kick-off arrives at 12.30pm. He told The Bolton News: "I think it will be a different type of game (to the one at Sheffield Wednesday) because it should be a sell-out and it's up to us now to create that atmosphere. Let's start on the front foot, let's try and get that crowd behind us because it's so helpful when they are. I'm sure they'll be up for it. We sold about 1,700 (at Sheffield Wednesday) and they saw that the lads gave absolutely everything. We were really good for about an hour but it's difficult when you are down to 10 men even though the work-rate was still there. I think the fans that were there will have seen that and I think they would have taken a lot of positives from that game as well." Though the make-up of Wanderers' Championship attack is still very much under construction, the defensive unit created over the summer has been a source of encouragement for Schumacher. New additions like Luca Stephenson, Akin Famewo and Ben Davies have blended well with the defence which guided the Whites confidently through the business end of last season. He said: "They have been doing really well. The work that we have done since the first week of pre-season, when we spoke about how we play and what we do, it's getting better. Obviously you can't just throw it all on new players all at once, you've got to drip feed them in, so even this week there was a different element to how we defended in the final third, that was new for some of the ones who were here last year. But we'll just get stronger. I think all three lads in that back four, the new ones have all done really well and made a big impact on the squad. As Bolton Wanderers look to start the new season on a high, they currently sit 5th in League One, having accumulated 75 points from 46 games last season, with a recent form of LDDWL. They have scored 70 goals and conceded 52, with a goal difference of +18. They are 28 points behind leaders Lincoln in the title race.
