Bolton Wanderers has announced a strategic partnership with Arkero Technologies Inc. to launch a new artificial intelligence strategy and transformation roadmap for the Championship club. The move, reported by Bolton Wanderers FC this week, is designed to embed AI across the organisation as English football enters a new phase of technological adoption.
This initiative follows three months of close collaboration between the club's leadership and the technology firm. The work has established Bolton's AI strategy, created a detailed transformation roadmap, and built a modern data architecture. A bespoke club intelligence layer now sits over Bolton's own data, systems, processes, and organisational knowledge. This layer is accessible across the club and is intended to give every employee a more complete and useful view of proprietary information. It also provides the foundation for practical AI tools and agents.
What does the AI platform aim to achieve?
The new AI platform has three core objectives for Bolton Wanderers. First, it aims to help the club engage more effectively with its supporters. Second, it is designed to identify opportunities to grow revenues across all departments. Third, the system seeks to improve operational efficiency in day-to-day work. Chief Executive Officer David Ray stated the club's proactive stance. "AI will change how football clubs are run. We want Bolton Wanderers to be ready for that, not playing catch-up," he said.
How does Arkero's experience benefit Bolton?
Arkero Technologies brings practical experience from working with football clubs in the United States and England. The firm already deploys AI agents inside the football workplace for MLS side Seattle Sounders FC, NWSL club Seattle Reign FC, and new expansion team San Diego FC. Closer to home, Arkero is working closely with Southend United to transform how that club operates, applying AI across both football and business functions. These existing deployments give Bolton access to lessons learned from clubs already introducing AI into their daily operations.
Shivaas Gulati, Chief Executive Officer of Arkero, explained the foundational approach. "AI transformation does not begin with a chatbot. It begins with a club's data, systems, knowledge and workflows," he said. The partnership signifies Bolton's intent to systematically prepare for a future where AI is embedded in how information is organised, decisions are made, and work is carried out.
Where does this fit with Bolton's current season?
The off-field transformation comes as the first team prepares for its next Championship fixture, an away match against Sheffield United on 1st September 2026. Fans can track the build-up and view the full schedule on our fixtures page. The club is also managing the absence of forward Rúben Rodrigues, who is currently sidelined. The latest injury news is always available on our dedicated injuries section. Supporters can also see how the squad is shaping up by checking our squad roster.
This strategic investment in AI and data infrastructure represents a significant step for Bolton Wanderers as it competes in the Championship. The club believes integrating these technologies is essential for modern football operations, aiming to create advantages in engagement, commercial performance, and efficiency both on and off the pitch.
