Bolton Wanderers have paid tribute to the late Councillor David Chadwick, a lifelong fan and former mayor of the town who died on Wednesday morning. The club and its community foundation expressed deep sadness at the loss of a figure who had supported the team for most of his life and chose its charitable arm as a beneficiary during his mayoral term.
Chairman Sharon Brittan led the tributes. She said she was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. Chadwick served as a Westhoughton town councillor for more than three decades, holding roles including Cabinet Member for Transport and Chair of the Licensing Committee. He was inaugurated as Mayor of Bolton.
His connection to the club was profound. A season ticket holder for most of his life, he selected Bolton Wanderers in the Community as one of his official mayoral charities. In May, he presented the foundation with a cheque. Ben Lawton, Chief Executive of Bolton Wanderers in the Community, said the gesture meant a great deal. He said the decision to make them a chosen charity meant an enormous amount and that the funds go directly into their work across the borough.
Beyond politics and football, Chadwick was a school governor, charity trustee and volunteer for community groups across Bolton. He attended local schools and worked in the textile industry before a later role at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
The news comes as the first-team squad prepares for its next Championship challenge. Their recent form shows one win in the last five, a victory over Cardiff City last Friday.
