Bolton Wanderers' former stars are reuniting to support walking football in the local community. Club ambassador John McGinlay and former manager Keith Hill took part in a training session at Active Bolton Arena on Thursday evening.

What happened?

The event was a taster for a tournament on Sunday, September 20, with 32 teams competing. Backed by Bolton Wanderers in the Community and the council's Keep Bolton Moving initiative, it will raise funds for charity.

Why it matters for Bolton Wanderers

The event has been inspired by local legend Ken Heathcote, who has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity over six decades. At 90 years of age, he is showing no sign of slowing down in his efforts to raise funds and help the community.

What comes next?

McGinlay has already signed up for the tournament, and Ken is hoping to have more Wanderers royalty in attendance. The event will take place on September 20, and the community is invited to participate. As of the current season, Bolton Wanderers are 5th in League One, with 75 points from 46 games, and a recent form of LDDWL. Their goal difference is +18, with 70 scored and 52 conceded. They are 28 points behind leaders Lincoln in the title race. | Category | Value | | --- | --- | | League standing | 5th | | Points | 75 | | Goal difference | +18 | | Recent form | LDDWL | | Title race | 28 points behind leaders Lincoln
