Bolton Wanderers are in the hunt for another goalkeeper between now and the end of the transfer window. They have been linked with a swoop for Asmir Begovic along with Sheffield United following his exit from Leicester City. BWFC are keen to bring in some competition for number one Jack Bonham. If they are able to get someone, that will free up one of Luke Hutchinson, David Harrington or Nathan Broome to head out the exit door on loan.
The Trotters should target a move for Hull City stopper Dillon Phillips before the deadline on 1st September after already raiding the Tigers for defender Akin Famewo earlier this summer. Phillips, 31, has played just under 250 games in his career so is vastly experienced in the Football League. He was his current club's back-up behind Ivor Pandur last season as they went on to win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs against the odds under the guidance of Sergej Jakirovic.
The London-born man remains under contract at the MKM Stadium until June 2027 and the East Yorkshire outfit also hold an option to keep hold of him for a further 12 months. However, he is unlikely to get many minutes in the top flight.
Bolton Wanderers wouldn't need to break the bank to land Phillips. He is now Hull City's third choice so BWFC should be able to tempt the Tigers into a sale. They have broken their transfer record to snap up Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos after selling Pandur to Rangers. Jack Butland also arrived in early July so they no longer need Phillips.
Phillips would provide strong cover for Bonham for the Trotters. He knows the league inside out and would be a useful character to have in and around the dressing room. Prior to his switch to Hull City, he spent two years at Rotherham United. He has also had spells in the past at Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City.
