Bolton Wanderers are keen to sign a new striker, with manager Steven Schumacher admitting that Johnny Kenny's skill set matches the profile of a player they are looking to sign. The club are thought to have made their interest in Kenny clear, but face competition from other Championship clubs and at least two on the continent. Schumacher wants to work with Kenny again, but admits that he doesn't yet know whether the Celtic striker will be available during the current transfer window. The Bolton boss was speaking on a call-in on BBC Radio Manchester, where he was quizzed on whether Kenny could return to the Toughsheet Stadium after a successful loan spell last season. Sources close to Celtic claim that Kenny could be made available at the end of the window, once the club's first European commitments are cleared. Wanderers are thought to have made their interest crystal clear, though they now face competition from other Championship clubs plus at least two on the continent. Asked about the chances of Bolton bringing him back to the North West, Schumacher said: "Who knows? "I've spoken openly and not hid the fact that I thought Johnny did a great job for us last season. "He was a real bonus for us, a plus when we signed him in January. "He was a player that I tried to sign last summer, didn't manage to happen because Celtic needed him to stay in their squad. "We managed to get him in January, he came in, made a huge impact, scored some really important goals for us, got some assists and he's a player who again I've said I would love to work with again because he was a brilliant character. "Now whether we can make that happen again, I'm not sure. "I don't know whether we can financially afford it. "I don't know whether he's going to be available from Celtic in whatever department, whether that be on loan or whether that be on a permanent. "We're not sure but as I say he's a player I would love to work with again." Whether Kenny makes a return or not, Wanderers want two strikers before the transfer deadline on September 3, along with at least two more wide players. Joel Randall has been told he can find a new club - and should the former Peterborough United man move on, there would also be scope to sign a new central midfielder. It is also understood that Bolton are looking for a senior goalkeeper to challenge Jack Bonham for a place in the side. Wanderers fans are keen to see Kenny back in a white shirt after he gained popularity in a short spell last term, scoring six times before picking up a hamstring injury which ruled him out of the run-in and Wembley. Schumacher admits Kenny's skill set matches at least one of the players he is looking to sign. "He is a profile of a striker that I really like," he said. "He's somebody who's direct, he plays on the shoulder, he's got good speed, physically he was really good and better than what I'd expected. "He was a really good player for us, an important player. "And we'll just see how that one develops but he's not the only profile of a striker that we're looking at as well. "We obviously need to have other options and other names on hand because we won't put all our eggs in one basket. "I like to have, if we're going to go with three strikers in the building, I'd like them all to be slightly different profiles like we had last year. "Mason (Burstow) was a slightly different centre forward to Sam Dalby. "Sam Dalby's profile was different to Johnny Kenny so that's the ideal scenario. "We know we've got Sam, he's our player, he's really good with his back to goal, he's good at linking play, bringing others into play and creating chances for other players. "Plus he scores a lot of goals in the six yard box. "What we haven't got is a striker who likes to run in behind.
