Bolton Wanderers have confirmed the transfer of Sonny Sharples-Ahmed to Hednesford Town for an undisclosed fee. Sharples-Ahmed progressed through the Whites’ youth ranks and signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2023. The midfielder made his senior debut in the Vertu Trophy later that year and went on to make seven appearances in total. He was one of several Academy players drafted into the first team squad at the back end of the 2024/25 campaign and started against Lincoln City in League One. Sharples-Ahmed spent last season out on loan in non-league to further his experience in men’s football, initially at Torquay before heading to Spennymoor Town in January. A club statement read: “Everyone at Wanderers thanks Sonny for his commitment and effort during his time at the club and wishes him the best of luck in his future career.” Hednesford director of football Andrew Reed added: “We’re really pleased to welcome Sonny to the group. He brings a youthfulness that will be key for us this season. There’s a lot of upside to Sonny. He’s a combative midfielder with a huge future in the game.” Sharples-Ahmed said: “It’s exciting and I can’t wait to get started. Coming down here to see the progression they’re making is great. With all the stuff being done on and off the pitch, it made me think why would I not want to be a part of that, so I can’t wait to get going.” The Pitmen are aiming to build on their momentum following back-to-back promotions. They won the play-off final against Warrington Rylands on penalties in May. Sharples-Ahmed had a year remaining on his deal at the Toughsheet Stadium but now heads to Keys Park to continue his career in the National League North. The transfer marks the end of Sharples-Ahmed's time at Bolton Wanderers, where he developed through the youth ranks. The club will be hoping to see him succeed in his future career. Sharples-Ahmed's move to Hednesford Town is a positive step for the young midfielder, who will be looking to gain more experience in men’s football.
